Victorian Road trip 2

by Mt Solitary 2017. 5. 1.

Part II

Halls Gap in Grampian National Park

Day 3

We moved from the far east (big greens on the right side of map below) to the south west (a smaller

green next to Ballarato in the map) this day.

Our interests revolve around mountains and tracks mostly.

So we moved one part of National Parks to another.

If you look at the map of Victoria you would realize green colors who indicate mountains

and vegetation are sporadic.

In between Bright and Halls Gap I was literally shocked with desolate(probably more because it was autumn)

non prolific looking plains came running to me out of car window endlessly.

The fields were so expansive that you couldn't grasp end to end with bare eyes.

It was also very flat and almost empty without too many human traces.

Like deserted parts of country.

It was very different from NSW obviously.

I already missed winding undulating country roads with beautiful greens and animals.

I was busy observing out of car window and excited to pass towns I have heard so many times.

I was thirsty for new things and different things too.

We hardly saw cars on the roads.

Like many other places in the world small unpopular country towns were dead.

No human movements sighted like ghost towns.

It was not easy to find a place we can buy a cup of coffee.

We kept driving on and on through numerous small and big roads relying on GPS.

We drove 555 Kilometers in total and it took 8 hours to get Halls Gap.

I couldn't help feeling scared of this vast landscape from time to time.

I complained to Eddie that I didn't like moving from one end to the other without doing much in one place.

He reasoned with me that we were making a circle around our interests with which we would cover essence of Victoria

in the logical way.

It could be rough and was not totally our way.

I understood his idea and accepted it.

But packing each morning and unpacking every afternoon was a bit restless.

We finally arrived at our accommodation before 3 pm.

Morning was a bit overcast but afternoon we were lucky again with good weather.

After check in we went straight to Pinnacle walk in Grampian National Park.

It's more like a tourist destination with spectacular rock formations and views from the top.

We walked leisurely enjoying warm afternoon sun there.

There were precariously stacked boulders in Grand Canyon which was

a smaller cousin of American Grand Canyon.

It was beautiful and peaceful.

It also reminded me of King's Canyon in Uluru.
