Bally Mt
Today we hiked Bally Mountain.
We initially wanted to hike Springbrook National Park which was one of the best Gondwana Rainforest World Heritage places just like Lamington National Park. We visited Springbrook National Park a few times but never did Suze. However she didn’t want to waste(??) time for travelling 2-3 hours and also you couldn’t avoid crowds in famous places etc…so we decided to go hiking in Bally Mt which was just next to our Air B and B home.
This trail was classified grade 5 and the estimated hike time was 4 hours. But it took for us only 2 and half hours.
The terrain was rugged and it was a relentless ascent from the beginning before we scrambled up the hill and over the rocks near the peak.
Suddenly when we saw a couple of eagles that swooped down on their nest to their baby (with some food??)we doubted our eyes. Excited ,trying to take photos of them as quick as possible but unfortunately no to avail we were very much disappointed but still extremely happy to see them.
Next moment it dawned on me that the whole mountain was eerily quiet during the ascent and I guessed it was due to this beautiful but powerful predators’ existence. They didn’t look very big or conspicuous but as they extended their wings to fly out they looked humongous.
After climbing up very steep rocks we traversed a relatively flat area filled with brown reeds like plants.
It started drizzling a short time and then the bright rain bow formed a beautiful arc in the sky.
Mountain peak overlooked high rise buildings in Gold Coast far away. It was a really good hike combined with all sorts of dramatic elements I could say. We ended up eating our lunch at our accommodation even though I prepared a big lunch box for three of us.
It was our last night in Bonogin.
We were going to stay one more night on the way home but our holiday’s almost finished here.
As always we loved holidays but it was even better going home with a lot of new memories.
